  • Acupuncture & Electroacupuncture

Acupuncture, a treatment modality within Chinese medicine, is the insertion of sterile ultra fine needles into specific points along meridians of the body. These locations are known as acupoints and correspond to different organs and body systems. Acupuncture is used to bring the body back to balance and has been proven effective in the reduction of pain. Electro acupuncture uses a gentle electric current between needles, to stimulate muscles and increase pain relief, especially in musculoskeletal conditions. Every session at Trinity will incorporate the use of acupuncture as the primary treatment modality.

  • Cupping, Moxibustion & Gua Sha

These auxiliary Chinese Medicine methods may make up a component of your treatment, depending on the presenting condition. Cupping is the application of glass or plastic cups to the skin, creating a vacuum. This helps to release the fascia, allowing for blood and lymph to circulate more freely, and enhance healing and regeneration. Moxibustion or moxa, is the burning of a herb called mugwort. It may be applied directly to the skin, placed atop the needles, or used indirectly with a moxa stick. Moxa brings warmth to the channels and stimulates healing. Gua sha, or scraping, is a Chinese technique whereby the skin is scraped using a tool made of ceramic or polished stone, until the skin begins to redden - this is called Sha. Similar to cupping, this helpes to release fascial tension and is beneficial for many conditions.
